Checking out Stockholm last week was a total trip. I was there for 4 days (3 nights), and honestly, it’s one of the cleanest, most organized places I’ve ever been. If you’re thinking about a summer trip to Sweden, here’s the lowdown on what it was actually like.
That “Never-Ending” Daylight
First off, the light. It’s wild. Since it’s late June, the sun barely sets. I’d be heading back to my room at midnight and it still looked like early evening. It’s a bit of a mind-trip for your sleep schedule, but it gives you so much extra time to explore. You don’t feel that “it’s getting dark, I should head back” vibe at all.
Staying at Generator Hostel Stockholm
I crashed at Generator Hostel and it was a solid choice. If you’ve stayed at Generators before, you know they’re usually pretty stylish, but this one felt especially clean and tidy. The staff were actually nice (not always the case with big hostels!) and the common areas were great for hanging out. It’s in a good spot too—easy to get around from there.
Midsommar at Skansen
I timed it perfectly for Midsommar (Midsummer). I headed over to Skansen, which is this massive open-air museum. If you haven’t been, it’s basically like a mini-Sweden from the old days.
Seeing the Midsommar celebrations was the highlight of the trip. They raised the maypole, people were doing traditional folk dances, and everyone was wearing those iconic flower crowns. The atmosphere was so chilled out and happy. Even though it’s a huge tradition for locals, they didn’t mind tourists joining in at all. Swedes are honestly some of the nicest people I’ve met on my travels.
Museums and Clean Streets
Outside of the holiday festivities, I hit up a few museums. Stockholm is a dream if you like culture because everything is so close together. One thing that really struck me was how “ordered” everything is. No trash on the floor, everything runs on time, and it just feels very safe and put-together.
Photography & Videos
I spent basically the whole 4 days with my camera out. The lighting you get during these “white nights” is insane for photos. The colors of the buildings in Gamla Stan (the Old Town) against that perpetual twilight sky? Unbeatable.
I’ve got a ton of footage and photos I’m sorting through right now, so I’ll be dropping a full travel vlog and a photo dump very soon. Keep an eye out for that!
Quick Tips for Stockholm in June:
- Pack an eye mask: Generator has good curtains, but that 3 AM sun is persistent.
- Get a transport pass: The city is walkable, but the trains are so clean and easy, it’s worth it.
- Visit Skansen: Even if it’s not Midsommar, it’s the best way to see the “old” Sweden.
Stockholm is definitely a 10/10 summer destination. It’s rare to find a city that’s this beautiful but also this functional.
